Park Board Approves Art Camp
Amy Carroll received Speedway Park Board approval for her conceptual idea to offer a two-week summer camp of art, music, dance and theatre to children at Meadowood Park Gazebo. The board directed her to proceed with developing intricate details of the plan as to cost of the program, date, and number of volunteers that would be required to educate children Kindergarten through eighth grade.
Carroll believes is time to offer children a chance to express their creativity. Her plan is based on a program that her mother developed in Missouri while serving on the arts council. The mother-daughter team offered children a chance to express their theatrics experience.
Her real passion is theatre but she does teach art. Carroll is now looking for licensed volunteer teachers to help especially in the area of music. “A keyboard would be nice,” she said.
If successful, Carroll would eventually like to pay the teachers and volunteers to insure a commitment and longevity to the program.
“The success of the program happens because of the people, but money will make it more permanent,” Park Board Member Ray Lawrence said.
Even though Lawrence thought funding would be beneficial to the program’s
long-term success, the board decided to take a wait and see approach before
agreeing to fund an art summer program.. |
