One Year On Main StreetBill and Connie Norton celebrated their one-year business anniversary on Main Street operating the Main Attraction Antique Mall. Norton said they fell in love with the Trend House building and purchased it. This was prior to any knowledge that the Speedway Redevelopment Area existed. “We had no idea about the redevelopment,” he said to the Old Speedway City Neighborhood Association members. OSCNA member Betty Yeager remembers the building as the former theatre. Bill and Connie Norton were guest speakers at the OSCNA March 5 meeting to explain their business and to appraise antiques. Main Attraction Antique Mall has 42 dealers and 40 consignment dealers housed in its 9,000 square foot building. The merchandise includes antiques, collectibles, furniture, jewelry and coins. The Nortons plan to improve the store façade and to remodel the upstairs apartment into living quarters, so they can officially become Speedway residents. The couple will hire an artist to sketch of the store façade with a taste of New Orleans’ architecture style. The interior will include an atrium. “I’ll take the rendering to the Speedway Redevelopment Commission (SRC) to see if it will fit into their plans,” he said. “I am jealous. I live in the basement,” Elizabeth Glover, owner of Charlie Brown’s Pancake and Steak Restaurant, quipped. . |
