All My Relations Is On Main Street
Heather Barrett, owner of All My Relations, uses the words fun and unique to describe her store. A shopper can spend hours looking at the variety of merchandise that includes rocks, jewelry, herbs, statues of dragons, fairies, angels, antiques, books, greeting cards educational classes, and more. For those attune to the healing and spiritual world, the shopping experience takes on another dimension.
“This store is amazing. The store has an aura to it. It is a positive thing. You can sense the healing presence when you walk into the store. The sensitive shopper will pick up the crystal power,” said customer Donna Horn. Horn rediscovered All My Relations recently since it moved from 5242 Crawfordsville Road a year ago.
Barrett explained her concept of a healing store started through her own experience of suffering from a car wreck. “The doctors had me on 46 pills a day trying to manage my pain. They didn’t know how to treat me. After two years of heavy medication I told the doctor this wasn’t working.”
Barrett explained she had a friend that offered her healing through holistic medicine of meditation, herbs and energy work. To this day, Barrett carries rocks in her pocket daily for the healing effects. Each rock generates a different affect. On March 7, she carried amethyst for increased intuition; rose quartz for peace, calm, and friendship; smoky quart radiates high feminine energy; sodalite radiates good communication and healing. It depends upon the day’s activities as to the types of rocks she carries.
Barrett has not totally abandoned the medical profession. “I still go to the doctor to get a diagnosis. Then, I turn the holistic approach for treatment,” she said.
After Barrett’s successful recovery through natural healing, she wanted to share the gift of healing with others. She offers a meditative class each Wednesday night that brings an attendance of about 30 people. Belly dancing is offered twice a week as well as tarot and psychic readings. A spiritualist church also meets Sunday evenings. At the end of service, every member receives a divine message.
Barrett is also level 1 and II certified Reiki instructor. Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice of energy work.
She is also having an international speaker, Rainbow Eagle, discussing the Native American beliefs on March 31.
All My Relations has become a market for students and scouts in need of affordable rocks for science projects. She also has a lot of neighborhood children interested in buying dragons. She has even set up a lay-a-way program to let the children make payments. She noted the adults are attracted to the dragons because they are a symbol of good luck and prosperity. She also has a big customer base that collects fairies. “Many people place fairies out by the garden,” she said.
Barrett celebrated her one-year anniversary at 1008 Main Street on March 10. She said her relocation was a true community effort. More than 30 of her customers volunteered to help with the move.
Barrett contacted the town about locating on Main Street. She credited Brockton Brown, a former Speedway Redevelopment Commissioner, with the encouragement to do business on Main Street because of the future proposed development. She said the redevelopment commission wanted unique retail stores and restaurants to locate on Main Street. Barrett likes the location near the corner as it draws the Tenth Street traffic heading west into her store.
“I have great visibility,” she said. Brown said he never met Barrett, but he encouraged her to locate on Main Street because of the changes that are under foot. Brown still believes in Main Street and would encourage others to open a business. “If I had a business that was in need of office space, I would locate on Main Street,” he said.
