Razor Becomes Eagle Scout
(posted Dec 9) Zach Razor was awarded his Eagle Scout badge at a December 9 ceremony in the Westview Christian Church. In addition to words of praise and acknowledgment of his service to the community, letters from Governor Mitch Daniels and US Senator Evan Bayh were read, congratulating Razor on his accomplishment. District 7 City County Councilor Cherrish Pryor read a proclamation from the City County Council honoring Zach and noted only one in four scouts ever make it to the level of Eagle Scout. << more >> Speedway Utility Management LLC Request IURC Hearing(posted Dec 9) Speedway Utility Management LLC is petitioning the IURC for less regulation since its proposed project would be dealing with industrial and commercial customers. The utility was formed to operate, manage and own a central utilities complex to produce and deliver steam as well as process industrial wastewater for its initial primary customer, Allison Transmission Inc. << more >> Library Consolidation In Discussion(posted Dec 9) Indianapolis Marion County Public Library has no official consolidation plan to take over Speedway or Beech Grove public libraries according to Jon Barnes, public information officer. It is only in the discussion phase now. Barnes is referring to City County Councilor Ron Gibson's suggestion to consolidate the libraries to help offset the financial crisis of the new library that ran over budget and may leave a budget shortfall of $6.3 million. The City County Council does not want to raise property taxes to bail out the library. In the mean time, the IMCPL will have to cut services. << more >> SRC Wants Location Discussions with Circle K(posted Dec 9) The Board of Zoning Appeals 3-1 vote placed Circle K in a holding pattern for 30 days to give the Speedway Redevelopment Commission and Circle K a chance to discuss possible alternate sites to its current location at 2450 High School Road. BZA member Jeremy Gooch voted against the delay, saying that the future unknowns were costing Circle K money now. Circle K should find out its fate at the January 2 meeting. << more >> Wage Committee Forwards Recommendation to School Board(posted Dec 9) A Common Wage Committee serving the Board of Trustees of the School Town of Speedway passed a recommendation to use the 2007 AFL-CIO wages for 2008 construction projects. The school board still needs to accept or reject the wage committee's recommendation at the January 8 meeting. The wage scale is needed for the renovation of four science rooms at the high school and a potential junior high school project. << more >> DLGF Denies Park Bond(posted Dec 9) The Indiana Department of Local Government Finance denied Speedway Parks and Recreation Board's bond resolution to improve Leonard and Meadowood parks. The Speedway Parks Board voted June 4 to pass a declaratory resolution to issue a not-to-exceed $1,995,000 bond issue to improve Leonard and Meadowood Parks. << more >> BZA Approves Merrell Bros Treatment Plant(posted Dec 9) The Speedway Board of Zoning Appeals gave variance approval for Merrell Bros to build a septic waste recycling facility at the Waste Water Treatment Plant's site. Terry Merrell said this is just one of 14 remaining permits needed before construction of the enclosed facility can begin in the spring. Although Merrell sent notices to the 46 affected property owners, no one showed to remonstrate at the December 5 meeting. << more >> Proposed Car Recycling Facility Raises Concerns(posted Dec 8) For the residents living on West Hamblen Drive, their views of 35 acres of agriculture could drastically change to a car recycling facility if the zoning and variance use are granted to LKQ Indiana. Kathy Minton, 1814 W. Hamblen Drive, is determined to fight the petitioner by organizing the neighborhood and gathering petition signatures. Minton was able to have the hearing continued from November 29 to January 10. << more >> |
