Speedway Police Chief Jeff Dine told the Board of Police Commissioners that the department's reserve academy has been delayed until early January due to the longer than expected background investigation time needed for the applicants. Chief Dine told the board that his polygraph exams were more intensive than other local departments and consisted of pre and post interview sessions in addition the actual test itself. One session last week lasted over 4 hours. Dine hopes to have six to eight applicants start the academy.

Chief Dine recommend officers Jennifer Schriver, Chris Ristuccia, Matt Dalky and Michael Hart be promoted to the rank of second class patrolman.
Dine also said that Alan Jones was moved to a sergeant position in the uniformed patrol division. The review board found three officers at fault for recent accidents with their vehicles and three officers not at fault for their accidents.

Dine informed the board that the street crimes unit was continuing to perform at levels above his expectations and that he has now implemented a policy where the street crimes detective will be the officer in charge at major crime scenes. Dine noted this helps increase productivity of the manpower on the scene of a shooting and allows the on call detective to concentrate on dealing with victims and gathering suspect information while the street crimes detectives oversee evidence gathering and on scene interviews with witnesses.

Assistant Chief Joel Rush will have some of the street crimes unit detectives at the neighborhood watch meeting on Wednesday, December 12 at 6 pm in the Speedway Junior High School Cafeteria. Chief Rush will also be speaking at the Speedway Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday, December 11 at 7 am at the Brickyard Crossing Restaurant.

The next Commissioners meeting will be Jan 14 at 10.30 am.
