Andre Carson won the right to represent the Democratic party in the upcoming
special election to fill his grandmother's seat in Congress. Julia
Carson's death on December 15 opened the district 7 seat which will be filled
by the winner of the special election on March 11. Andre Carson captured
223 votes of the 439 cast by the Democratic Caucus.
Eight candidates vied for the seat including Carolene Mays, David Orentlicher,
Mike Rodman, Joann Sanders, Jeffrey White, Randal Pollard, and Stephanie
McCabe.
To the surprise of political pundits and the media, the election only required
one round of ballots to produce a majority vote.
The Republican party will hold their caucus tomorrow evening at 7:30 pm
at the 4H building on the state fair grounds.
