Business obstacles might be on the horizon for Nancy Back, owner of Lyndhurst Lawnmower, if Allison Transmission vacates Grande Avenue. Back's business is located at the corner of north east corner of Grande Avenue and Michigan Street. Back was one of the business spot light guest speakers at the Speedway Merchants Association's Jan 10 meeting.

Back briefly discussed the lawnmower sales and service business. "We may not be the cheapest, but we strive to the be the best," she said. Lyndhurst Lawnmowers carries a range of product lines from Toro, Lawn Boy, Simplicity, and Echo. She credited her twin daughters Sherri Waterman and Terri Norris, with the actual running of the business. "Sherri is kind of my little computer queen," she quipped. Back commended her daughters for their own specific roles that bring daily results to the business. She credits Sherri for the creation of the new website while Terri handles the sales aspect of the business.

Back told the story of how Lyndhurst Lawnmower has the letter "d" in the name. She said the previous owner started out at the corner of 16th and Lyndhurst Drive. She said the "d" was removed in Lynhurst Drive when Unigov occurred.

"I don't know what that really means," she said.

She said the previous owner moved to the current location at 4220 Michigan Street and converted the former Gulf Station to its current business in 1969. It was not until 1986 that Dean and Nancy Back purchased the business. The Backs feel like they are part of Speedway and attend the town's functions since their business is located across the street from the corporate line. She said they may be across the corporate line but the business is connected to Speedway utilities.
