Speedway Super Center for Sale

The Speedway Super Center is for sale. That is the word Speedway Redevelopment Commission President Scott Harris gave to the town council at its January 14 meeting.

Harris said he was taken back to read the announcement through a press release because he had a series of meetings with the Australian company, Centro Properties Group, in December. Harris met with regional and national managers to discuss the redevelopment plans, and nothing was said at the time about selling.

Becaue the shopping center is a "key component" to the town, Harris said he has contacted the company to assist with locating a buyer. Harris has also recruited the help of Mansur to help locate a buyer. The SRC is close to completing a contract and timetable with Mansur Real Estate Services to serve as the master developer for the Speed Zone. Mansur's webpage discusses its lead in the new redevelopment project.

Harris also informed the council they have submitted five linear park proposals to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He said the IMS will make the final selection among the three they have selected. The expansion of the redevelopment area to the north is on hold while IMS subdivides a parcel into a smaller unit to include the hotel and pro shop in the redevelopment area, but in the meantime the SRC will pursue placing the corner of Lynhurst and 10th into the redevelopment area.

According to Police Chief Jeff Dine, the shopping center is asking the department to move its substation to the former manager's office next to the vacant Sky Bank. Dine said they would start preparing for the move in February. The police lease the space for a $1 a year.
