Wal-Mart Sales Higher Than Expected

Store Manager Joe Stephenson said the company knew there was a need in this area for a Wal-Mart, but consumer spending is far stronger than corporate's forecast.

"It's phenomenal. It's been pretty crazy. Every cash register line is open" he said, referring to business on Saturday afternoon. He said the LSA Wal-Mart is the number one sales store compared to the other Wal-Marts during their grand openings.

"Sales were above our expectations during the first day and we continue to see a strong response from our customers at the Lafayette Road Wal-Mart. Anyone who was there for our Grand Opening on January 23 saw firsthand the overwhelming community support Wal-Mart has received since we announced we'd be a part of the Lafayette Square community two years ago. And now, we are seeing the same kind of support every day as our neighbors and customers fill the aisles of our store shopping for the best products at the best prices," Jason Wetzel Senior Manager Public Affairs said.
