Storm Slams Street Department with Cleanup

(posted Feb 1)

Speedway Street Commissioner Wendell Walters and his crew are now focused on the upcoming winter storm. Walters has been watching the radar to track the snow's intensity.

This week has been no easy task for the street department as they assisted public safety by putting up barricades to protect residents and motorists from fallen debris and electric wires after the tornado and straight line winds whipped through town. By Wednesday, the street department was out removing trees limbs from Elaine Street.

The street sweeper was also sent out to finish cleaning the streets of debris.

Walters reported the crew is also out picking up gray recycle bins that were strewn across town due to the high winds. The department plans to return the missing bins. Anyone in need of a bin or having extras as a result of the storm should call the street department 246-4141.
