Allison can initiate the vacation process by filing a petition to vacate just the section of the road it is adjacent to or it can file a petition to vacate the entire street from Tenth to Michigan Road. This would require the other abutting property owners to consent to the vacation. The petition would include a legal description of the vacated area and declaratory resolution (an ordinance) to be approved by the Marion County Plat Committee. The Speedway Redevelopment Commission can support the petition, but the ultimate authority comes from the plat committee. Surrounding neighbors will know if a petition process has started because orange public notice signs will be displayed along the street 23 days before the public hearing.
