500 Princess Promotes Youth Reading
(posted May 21)
Lori Birrer wanted to give something back of value to the community as gratitude for being selected as one of the 500 Princesses. In addition to traveling the state as ambassador to promote the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 500 and its pageantry, Birrer decided to go the extra mile by creating a youth reading program.
Birrer made an hour long visit to the Speedway Public Library on May 21
to read to the children. Her visit also included an awards presentation
for participating in her reading program.
"I love to read," she said.
Birrer wanted to help open the biggest door to a person's life by encouraging
them to read. She developed her own reading program that required children
to read 5 books. Part of the award ceremony included the children having
their picture taken with the Birrer standing by the 2007 Corvette Pace
Car.
