American Inn West Up For Sale(posted June 25) After 18 years, the time is right for Ish Patel to sell the American Inn West Hotel. "It is time to do other things," Patel said as a reason for selling. The property is listed for $1.4 million. Patel, who has owned and operated the business at 5630 Crawfordsville Road since 1989, said it is a great location, next to the shopping center and within a seven to eight minute walk to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "My wake up call is the cars starting at the race track," he quipped. He has a staff of five, including his wife, to conduct the hotel operations. "I have a maintenance man on call when I can't fix things," he added. He contended the property has great potential since the IMS plans to add more races and the Speedway Redevelopment Commission recently included the hotel in Redevelopment Area 2. "This is an exciting time for Speedway with the revitalization efforts," explained Realtor Elizabeth Gallagher. She said it would be great to bring in a brand hotel that could seize on the IMS events by offering box lunches, shuttle service and souvenirs. She said she has not personally spoken to the Speedway Redevelopment Commission about the property, but Patel said the SRC came to him about a year ago about buying the property, "but I never heard back from them, so I turned it over to a Realtor," he said. Patel went the unveiling of the Speed Zone and was impressed with the plans of revitalizing the town's industrial base and Main Street. SRC President Scott Harris was out of town and could not be reached for comment. |
