Letter To Remove Driveway Issued(posted July 28) The Indianapolis Department of Compliance issued a letter to Jerry Brattan to return the site of a non-permitted driveway to its original condition and remove the driveway within 30 days. The department issued the violation a year ago when he created a road cut onto Crawfordsville Road near Allison Avenue. Brattan received Speedway Town Council approval for the road cut at the April 24, 2006 meeting. The city of Indianapolis ruled the town did not have the power to grant the cut. The vote was 3-2 vote with Councilors Lu Hillmer and Jeff Hartman voting no, stating the City of Indianapolis controls Crawfordsville Road. Anne Coffey, public information officer for the DMD, explained Brattan then decided to seek a variance for his non-permitted driveway at the June 6, 2007 Board of Zoning Appeals. The meeting was continued until August 1 because the BZA members wanted to see the parking issues along the abandon Conrail corridor that parallels Crawfordsville Road and Speedway Drive during the Allstate 400. Brattan withdrew the petition on June 22, 2007. The BZA has to formally recognize the withdrawal at the August 1 meeting. |
