Eagledale Baptist Church Moving West

Eagledale Baptist Church and Christian School are moving to 220 Country Club Road. The site is currently up for rezoning to SU2 to permit religious uses. The site has two parcel numbers that are currently zoned D5II and SU 34. The purchase includes the Celebration Banquet Facility and the additional vacant land that fronts Rockville Road.

According to the DMD, the hearing examiner approved the preliminary request at the July 26 meeting. The Department of Metropolitan Development Commission (DMDC) will hear the request on August 15. Since there was no opposition, there is a strong likelihood the DMDC will probably pass the petition request based on the hearing examiner's favorable recommendation.

August 2 was the last day to appeal to the request for rezoning. To voice opposition, a remonstrator would now have to request a "good cause" from the DMDC to be heard at the August 15 meeting.

According to the a spokesperson for Eagledale Baptist Church, a new name will be selected since the church will not be close to the vicinity of Eagledale, but the corporate name will remain. The church is currently located at 4950 W. 34th Street. Growth pressures are creating capacity issues. Some reasons cited for the move are a growing congregation, limited parking and an auditorium too small to meet the church's needs
