Speedway Town Council Nixes Manager's Contract

The Speedway Navigator has learned that the Speedway Town Council will not renew town manager John McCurtain's employment contract when its term expires.  The contract required the board to give advanced notice to the manager if his contract would not be renewed past December 31.

According to Town Council president Bill Golay, the board decided not to renew his contract so as to give the council that will be elected this fall the ability to hire the manger of its choosing, even though the current council might be involved with the interviewing process.  Golay did not state the severance was due to performance issues, only stating that budgetary concerns were the reason for the cancelation. McCurtain will receive severance pay, but it will not extend until the end of the year.

John McCurtain declined comment, citing advice from counsel and "pending clarifications regarding my notice."
