McCurtain's Dismissal Not Favored by All

(posted Aug 14)

Liz Glover let the Speedway Town Council know that she disapproved of the early contract termination of Town Manager John McCurtain. She called his dismissal a loss. She thought the council's action to remove him from his job was an injustice and he deserved better. She recognized that McCurtain had a tough job to do, especially walking into the uncharted waters of redeveloping Speedway.

She believed that McCurtain operated in the best interest of the town. She noted that he was present at all of the meetings. She hopes the future town manager will be treated with better respect. Her comments received an applause from the audience.

Town Council President Bill Golay said he wanted to put rumors to rest that it just wasn't one town councilor that ended McCurtain's contract. The vote had the majority of council support. The meeting was conducted in an executive session to discuss personnel issues which is a permitted reason.

According to the Open Door Law governing executive sessions, final action must be taken in an open meeting.
