Council Approves of Main Street Parade(posted July 23) The Speedway Town Council gave approval to Julia Pratt and Linda Karn's request to have a Main Street Parade September 22. The details of the parade still need to be worked out, but the parade is intended to promote community spirit and fun with an emphasis hinged around families and neighbors. The parade is free of charge and open to all who want to participate in the parade to showcase their organization, business, or club. It's designed to place Speedway in the spotlight to depict its assets and residents, civic leaders, youth, service organizations, and businesses. Parade organizers Amy Carroll and Susan Luebbert were also at the meeting to show support for the cause. The parade organizers will return periodically before the council to present the plans as they develop. For more information contact Linda at 730-0851 or Julia at 244-4463. Resident Gerald Hinchman dubbed his complaint as "trash talk" when he addressed the July 23 meeting. He showed the council photos of eyesores that are created by the trash and yard waste removal crews. He said the trash cans are strewn across the street and lawns and makes the town look junky. He requested the council talk to the street department and other vendors to place the trash cans back where the owner placed them. He understood that the crews want to get the job done quickly, but taking the time to do the job right is part of the job too. |
