ConAgra Applies for IDEM Permits(posted Oct 30) ConAgra Foods, located at 4200 West 62nd Street, plans to submit a notice of intent to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to discharge storm water into Guion Creek. ConAgra Environmental Manager Tracy Kayhanfar said the actual physical plant is not expanding, but just adding more lines. Public Information Officer Steve Polston said notice of intent provides information of the products produced at the site and potential pollutants that may be exposed to the stormwater runoff. He said the NOI acts as an application for a stormwater permit. Part of the permit requirements involve ConAgra developing and implementing plans for storm water pollution prevention that includes site maps, drainage maps and a sampling plan. The plan includes best management practices for preventing contamination runoff. Polston explained a grab sample will also be required at each of fallouts where the storm water is exposed to industrial activity. |
