Lord of The Harvest's Petition Continued Again(posted Nov 8) The Lord of The Harvest Church zoning and variance petitions were continued for the second time by the Speedway Board of Zoning Appeals due to improper notice. This time the notice to establish a church use in a commercial C-1 use was published in newspapers that did not comply with the BZA's guidelines. BZA President Charlie Powell said at the November 7 hearing that the notice should have been published in The Indianapolis Star and Speedway Town Press. Petitioner Wanda Thomas indicated she received misinformation and thought it was OK to advertise the legal notice in the Court and Commercial Record and Indiana Herald. Powell said the petition to rezone 2828 N. High School Road will be heard on December 5. The church is also seeking a variance to have outdoor activities. Department of Metropolitan Development Senior Planner Ryan Hunt indicated the Lord of the Harvest Church's petition could become a moot point if the church decides to drop the variance for external uses. He explained the Indianapolis City County Council may pass the ordinance, scheduled for November 12 vote, to allow religious uses in C-1. Hunt noted a variance for outdoor activities would be needed if the ordinance passed because that is not a permitted use in a C-1. |
