Amy Carroll, club facilitator, addressed the council at the Oct 22 meeting. The council gave no response. The Speedway Promoters Club represents the grassroots community to bring fun and community spirit into Speedway by hosting different events. Their mission statement is to promote the Speedway community's assets to help with the redevelopment and showcase the town in a good light. The council received only two bids for trash and recycling. Ray's Trash offered $77.76 per unit for the first year for trash collection and $25.20 per unit for recycling. A two year contract was the same amount. Best Way offered $88.44 per unit for landfill collection and $23.88 for recycling per household for a one year contract. A two year contract increases landfill collection to $91.08 for the second year. A two year trash collection contract to take refuse to Indianapolis Resource Recovery is $112.44 per unit for the first year. A two year contract is $112.44 per unit for the first year and the second year is $118.08. A two year recycling contract is $23.88 per unit household for the first year and $24.60 is for the second year. Town Council President Bill Golay recommended the solid waste commission review the bids to make a recommendation to the council. Councilor Lu Hillmer received a council vote of 5-0 to her request to donate $500 to Crime Stoppers to support its community shredding activity on Oct 6. All the money received went to Crime Stoppers. The vote is contingent upon legal review to see if taxpayers funds can be dedicated to organizations. The council also approved a $100 gift to the students going to Motegi as part of their reward for helping on heavy trash day. This action too is contingent upon legal review. The council also agreed to install a four way stop sign at 15th Street and Winton Avenue at the request of Councilor Gary Raikes. Raikes said he received a petition asking for the sign as a safety benefit to children safety walking to and from Fisher Elementary School. |
