Clermont Fire Contract Cost Drops for 2009

(posted Nov 15)

Clermont's 2009 Budget is expected to increase by less than half of percent from 2008. The proposed budget is $713,822 and is expected to be adopted at the November 24 meeting.

Council President Bob Hinshaw said Wayne Township Fire Department has lowered the 2009 contract to $337,918 from last year's $358,000. Hinshaw was not sure why the contract is lower than last year's. He also noted the 2009 general fund dropped by $2,300 from 2008.

The council voted not to reduce the budget by the $20,000 savings from the fire contract because of the uncertain budget situation in 2010 due to the tax caps. Financial advisors have projected that by 2010, the town will be receiving $90,000 less in funding. The council agreed they did not have to spend the $20,000.

No one protested the budget during the November 13 public hearing, which includes $8,000 for snow removal.

Councilor Walt Miller reported that DPW will provide the town salt this year to reimburse the town for fixing a culvert in the city's district that Clermont inadvertently repaired last summer.
