Date Set for SRC Acquisition List Hearing

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission plans to conduct a public hearing December 15 to place parcels in Area Two on an acquisition list.

The SRC scaled down its idea to put all parcels in the Speed Zone and Area Two on the list. No additional parcels in the Speed Zone will be added to the list.

SRC Executive Director Scott Harris highlighted the list at the commission's Nov 17 meeting. The SRC omitted the Marsh and Meadowood Shopping Centers, and Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary. It also omits the retail shops on the south side of Crawfordsville Road from Einstein Bagels to the Quiznos Sub Shop.

Despite the recommendation by Charette Committee Team Allison to make only facade improvements, the SRC placed the buildings on the north side of Crawfordsville Road, from Lynhurst Drive to Gerrard Avenue, on the list. Team Allison wanted to preserve the corner and the appearances of the stores. The SRC's proposed list includes the National City Bank at the northwest corner.

Hardee's, Union Jack's, the former BW3 building, the strip mall west of the post office, Roland Retirement Village and Villa Capri are also included. Harris said The Speedway Super Center and all of the outlots are included.

Corporate Square, The American Inn, Hermitage Apartments, and the former Pizza Hut will be included as well as International Village, Budget Inn and the other retail and commercial buildings on the west side of High School Road.

Harris said "There are some apartments obviously included in this, there are no residential units included in this."

Hermitage and International Village are zoned D7, high density residential areas. Villa Capri and Roland's are C2, commercial use areas.

The southwest corner of US 136 and High School is on the list and that includes everything INDOT is not taking. INDOT is taking West Wind Apartments and the Red Roof Inn for the new Accelerate 465 interchange.

Commissioner Ron Fisher inquired about the dentist office and former Falendar headquarters. Harris said the Falendar building, at 2915 High School Road, is not in the TIF area, but the dentist office at 2955 High School and dental complex at 6211 W. 30th are in the TIF, but will not be placed on the acquisition list.
