"Let's shop" were the words shouted from a Lafayette Square Area Coalition (LSAC) member immediately after Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams snipped the ribbon at the grand opening of Shoppers World at the Lafayette Square Mall.

Williams, City County Councilor Maggie Lewis and other mayoral staff joined the ceremonial ribbon cutting with Shoppers' World President Abe Dushey and his son, Sam. Williams was excited to see the store open as it serves as another success story in the coalition's initiatives in rebuilding the area. Williams remarked that another benefit is the employment of 100 people, adding the store opening will bring attention to the mall and attract others to the area. Lewis explained it is part of the city councilors' job to be concerned with job creation and encouraging businesses to come.

Sam Dushey of Shoppers World said the demographics matched exactly the type of community that Shoppers World serves in the urban communities. This is the first store to open in the Midwest. The other stores are in New Jersey and New York. The store is known for offering value to its customers.

Store Manager Anwar Euring said the store is able to offer discounts with a department store flare.

The opening marks the second time in a week the mall has welcomed a new tenant. Xscpape entertainment center opened on December 11.
