30 Trees Coming to Clermont

(posted Dec 24)

The Clermont Community Development Committee is in need of 30 volunteers for a spring tree planting day. The target date is Saturday, April 11.

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful representative Jerome Delbridge met with Clermont Community Development Committee members Walt Miller and Bill Roop on December 17 to explain the grant tree planting program. The committee was awarded the KIB grant last month.

According to Miller, Clermont will receive approximately 30 trees to be planted near the town's eastern gateway by the CSX bridge. The town's first tree planting has been dubbed the demonstration project.

If the demonstration project proves successful, Clermont will have an opportunity to receive more trees in the future.

Tentative plans show that KIB will obtain permits, mark utilities and handle other logistical tasks, including providing one-third of the volunteers to plant trees. KIB will supply trees, mulch, tools and training.

Clermont needs to provide at least two-thirds of the volunteers as part of the community building program. The CCDC must also develop a three year maintenance program to care for the trees and collect owner commitment forms for the trees' short term care.

The maintenance program requires each tree to receive 15 gallons of water per week from April through October. Miller said the details will continued to be worked out at the January 13 CCDC meeting.
