Flood Stories Wanted for Gerrard - Allison Project

The $396,000 preliminary design contract with American Structurepoint is a sign that the town is committed to fix the Gerrard-Allison flooding problems. Approximately 40 people attended the Speedway Storm Water Management Board public hearing on January 14 to voice their flooding problems. The public hearing is required as part of the grant application the town has to compete for community block grant coming from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

DPW and Clermont Tally Salt Loads

The Clermont Town Council withheld developing a memorandum of understanding between the DPW and the town until the town attorney can review emails between Councilor Walt Miller and the DPW. Councilor Vonda Kiger urged the town to formalize the agreement between the two to groups.

72nd Street Receives Temporary Closure

The Board of Public Works approved a temporary closure of 72nd Street at the request of the residents to examine traffic problems in the New Augusta Area. The road closure would last than no later than May 1.

Dry Run Ditch Relocation Approved

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has approved the water quality permit to relocate Dry Run Ditch south of 16th Street.
The approval came despite requests for a public hearing filed in November by Susan Luebbert, owner of Speedway Monogramming, and Merri Anderson, Greater Garden City Civic Association president.

INDOT to Begin Construction in April

INDOT gave notice on January 6 that Accelerate 465 construction in the US 136 and Crawfordsville area should begin in April. The notice was a part of the requirement to file for a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit in case debris enters Eagle Creek. The construction project should be finished in September 2010.

Attorney General Declines Utility Opinion

The Indiana Attorney General declined to provide a legal opinion on the tree trimming practices of electrical utility companies in the state. As the Speedway Navigator reported on December 30, Senator Mike Delph delivered a letter from homeowners in the Trader's Point area to the Attorney General, seeking clarification on utilities' rights to enter private property to trim or remove trees believed to be interfering with power lines.
