Circle K Continues Petition

(posted Mar 5)

Circle K received approval for another 60 day continuance from the Speedway Zoning Board of Appeal on March 5.

Representing Circle K, Insight Engineer Don Fisher told the board that the Speedway Redevelopment Commission is not ready to come to an agreement about the gas station's existing location at the corner of High School and Crawfordsville Roads.

In a December meeting, SRC Executive Director Scott Harris asked the plans to be put on hold to find a better location due to proposed road changes with Accelerate 465 and area two redevelopment plans, even though a master plan did not exist. Fisher explained without that agreement with the SRC, he was "hesitant" to withdraw the variances petitions which are necessary to carry out the initial plans to demolish the current Shell Gas Station, pumps and car wash. The plans call for building a new convenience store and fuel islands.

The new construction cost is $1.5 million to $2 million. Circle K also plans to close the former Big Foot gas station to reduce operating costs. The building will be placed for sale with a restriction not to sell gas. The company is requesting the required 20 foot setbacks be reduced to 10 feet in order to maximize the use of the triangular shaped property.

The board is expected to hear the case May 7.
