Community Playground Plans Unveiled May 13
(posted Apr 17)
It takes a community of volunteers to build a playground. Danny Smith of Chapel Rock Christian Church is orchestrating a community wide effort to build a playground at the Ben Davis Sport Youth Complex.
Smith said the playground will provide more than a place of recreation
for the youth and will serve as a community gathering spot. Smith said
the church hired architects Leathers and Associates. Architects will interview
students at Chapel Wood Elementary School and solicit ideas from the students'
drawings. The drawings will be incorporated into the schematics of the
future playground. Smith explained Leathers and Associates has built playgrounds
across the country.
A power point presentation of the future playground will be unveiled to
the public on May 13 at Chapel Rock Christian Church, 6:30 pm. The playground
will provide equipment for special needs children, preschoolers and children
from five to twelve.
He said the unveiling of the proposed $180,000 to $230,000 structure will
require soliciting donations. The idea is have much of the material and
resources donated, including volunteers help to build the playground.
