Williams Construction was awarded the 40 foot paving job on Tansel Road at the May 8 Clermont Town Council meeting.

At the April 10 meeting, the paving bid award of $1,975 to Williams Construction was rescinded after objections by the town attorney over the failure to obtain three quotes.

According to IC code 36-1-12-4.7, the quotes needed to be opened in a public meeting, however the State Board of Accounts indicated that local governments that have public works jobs of less than $25,000 can receive quotes by fax or telephone.

The other quotes were from City Wide Paving at $8,794 and Corrigan Paving at $2,650.

Williams Construction also won the sidewalk project with a $3,304 bid. Thornton Brothers bid $16,616 and City Wide Paving $8,040. The job specifications were to repair a total of 134 linear feet in different ten locations.

The council also instructed town attorney Robert Lutz to draft an ordinance to create a Cumulative Building and Equipment Fund for fire protection at a rate of .33 cents per $100.00 assessed value. The ordinance will create an additional levy because the council is limited in the amount it can raise per year to pay for its fire contract with Wayne Township.

Police Chief George Hughes introduced the department's new K-9, Baron, to the council. The dog came from Germany 6 weeks ago. The 15 month old dog will start drug training in a few weeks and patrol school in the fall. He said the dog shows good potential. Hughes credited the Moose Lodge for donating the dog.
