Brickhouse Fitness Offers Aerobic Classes
(posted June 8)
Rick James opened Brickhouse Fitness in early 2008 to bring fitness to Eagle Creek customers.
"A lot of my clients live in the Eagle Creek area, and they kept mentioning
they wish there was a place close that offered aerobic classes. One day
while running on the Eagle Creek Trail, I looked over and saw a strip mall
on the corner and thought that would be a great spot for an aerobic class."
The fitness center is located at 6225 W. 56th Street.
At the advice of his friends, James turned his love for exercise and providing fitness information into a job. He said they encouraged him to become certified to start his career as a personal trainer and an aerobic instructor.
As a personal trainer, James has observed a growing number of women engaging in strength training. "For years, a lot of women have been afraid to lift weights because they were they would start looking to masculine. Now, a lot of women are realizing they can get toned and defined muscle by lifting weights."
James must be careful to pace himself to keep up with the high demand for his aerobic classes. James must stay injury free to maintain his business to teach 44 classes a week. His remedies are soaking his body once a week and stretching all day. However, what he attributed to the success to his injury free status is listening to his body. "It will tell me when I need to lay off for a while."
James indicated that he is always in search of enthusiastic instructors to teach classes.
