Town Needs Permit to Drain Water Tower

The Town of Speedway will need a permit to drain the 400,000 to 500,000
gallons of water from the 16th Street tower into Little Eagle Creek. Amy
Hartsock, IDEM public information officer, explained that it requires a
discharge permit prior to releasing into the stream. The potable water
contains chlorine to meet EPA safety guidelines.
"They must dechlorinate. We are in the process of providing them with more information about discharge permitting requirements. It's our understanding they have postponed this until August."
