Major Brian Mahone of Southwest IMDP called the district's June 19 community day a successful event.

The event is an opportunity for the children and adults to develop a rapport with the police and other government and non-profit agencies. The crime lab, bomb squad, motorcycle and horse patrol units were on display on the old school 52 playground, as well as vehicles from the Emergency Management Agency, IFD and Wishard Hospital.
Several public health and informational agencies had booths inside the gym.

Mahone said he did not have an exact number in attendance but he would have a good estimate after the hot dog count. The four-hour event provided food, drink and entertainment as well as educating the public about social and health services.

Tom and Sarah Glass of the 500 View Neighborhood Association said the IMPD has been very helpful with ticketing semi-trucks parked on the streets. However, if the trucks are parked on private property, it becomes a zoning violation issue. He attributed the enforcement of illegal overnight parking, abandon homes and cars of making a big difference with improving the neighborhood.
