Speedway Officer Injured During Arrest

Speedway police officer Mike Clupper was injured early Friday morning while assisting other officers during an arrest. The officer was taken to the hospital for a knee injury and later released.

Officers had responded to a citizen's complaint of noises and someone carrying a flashlight in the alley in the 5000 block of 12th Street around 1.00 am. Officer Joe Kremer spotted a suspect who fled, chased by officers Kremer and Michael Hart. The suspect disappeared from their view and the officers set up a perimeter while waiting for a K9 to respond.

An IMPD helicopter arrived and found the suspect hiding in a back yard, when they lit up the yard with their light the suspect was arrested by officers. Officers later found a vehicle in a garage that had been broken into in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle's stereo.
