May 30 ended with the punch of severe storms blowing through Indiana. Speedway suffered from downed power lines at the alley crossing Winton Avenue between 14th and 15 Streets. The heavy rains caused flash flooding on Meadowood Drive just west of Schoolwood Drive and at Woolco Lane and 22nd Street. Street Commissioner Wendall Walters was out at 12:30 am removing twigs and limbs from the storm drains to alleviate the high water.

Speedway firefighters resonded to a series of transformer fires througout the southern half of the town.  Fire station two lost power for brief time, and police officers responded to numerous alarms caused by the high winds and lightning.
