Park Construction Could Begin By October 13
(posted Sept 11)
Construction could begin as early as October 13 for the path enhancement
plans and improvements for Meadowood and Leonard Park. The Speedway Parks
and Recreation Board approved finalizing the park plans with minor changes
at its September 9 meeting.
Board President Ray Lawrence requested not to remove the concrete basketball
pad at the Meadowood Park because it could have a potential future use.
The board also made cross walks improvements a bid alternate in case the
bond can't be used for expenditures outside the park. The board is expected
to solicit bids by September 15 and award the bid by October 2.
American Structurepoint's Daryn Fair said he would forward the plans on
to Marion County Soil and Water for review.
Ron Lauster of Marion County Soil and Water Conservation said when an acre
or more is disturbed, state law requires the office to review to ensure
plans meet erosion and sediment control standards. Since Speedway is one
of the excluded cities, it is not mandatory. Lauster said the WSC's review
and comments are non-binding.
