It was more of a creative whim when Christie Manion decided to paint Sparky on a rock, but this whim has now turned into a business, mypaintedrock.com.

Manion is hoping that by participating in the October 8 Fair Trade at IUPUI it will help grow the business. She said the Fair Trade helps buyers directly link to artists and avoid a middleman. "It's my first invitation for my artwork, I'm pretty excited!"

She is also working to use her artistic talents to raise money for the Relay for Life by selling her cancer awareness rocks. Some of the proceeds will be given to the Relay for Life.

She said the different types of cancers have specific colors. "Obviously breast cancer is pink, and ovarian cancer is teal." She acknowledged that her grandmother lost her life to ovarian cancer. Manion's artistic talents can cover most requests. She recently painted angels for her neighbor's children to celebrate their baptism. She also received a request to paint an image of a family pet that recently passed. The rock will serve as a memorial.
