Wayne Township Budget Vote Delayed

(posted Oct 11)

Democratic Wayne Township Advisory Board candidates expressed disappointment that the October 9 meeting of the Wayne Township Board was canceled with little or no notice. The candidates learned of the cancellation only after finding a notice on the Government Center door.

The cancellation notice stated the board was waiting for more information from the Department of Local Government Finance. The notice stated the meeting is rescheduled for November 13. The DLGF sent out notice to governmental units that budgets are not required to be passed until December. Budgets are normally due by September.

The board has yet to pass the budget since the August 14 public hearing. The candidates were expecting the budget to be passed and were prepared to ask questions. Traci Lipp had questions she wanted to ask before the board passed the estimated $30 million budget. She contended the board delayed the meeting so they could vote on the budget after the election. "It is a cop out," she said.

One area of concern is the township park. Lipp is not sure if the township even owns the park in Clermont. She was hoping to resolve her question at the meeting. Candidates Charles Scott and Doug White also had issues of concern.
